Subject Area: Geographical, Earth and Environmental Sciences
I am the Assistant Subject Manager in Geographical, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES) with overall responsibility for all GEES undergraduate provision. I line manage a number of acadmeic staff and I am Programme Leader for undergraduate programmes in Geography on which I also teach.
Teaching responsibilities
Senior Lecturer in Geography mainly specialising in cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing and GIS.
Professional interests
I do consultancy via the Centre for Land Evaluation & Management (CLEM) for whom I provide surveying, mapping and surface modelling expertise for projects like flood risk assessment. I also act in an advisory, training and/or consultancy capacity for SMEs and charitable organisations etc in the use / adoption of GIS and related technologies (such as GPS) and/or aid them in getting the most out of their geospatial data. Recently for example I provided database processing services and technical advice on database management and analysis for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.
Research interests
My research has tended to focus on the application / use of GIS. Examples include flood risk assessment, forecasting population growth and looking at the relationships between census and health data.
