Supporting the Faculty and School vision

Having been at the University of Derby since 1990 I have seen many changes in the Higher Educational sector and have always tried to embrace all the challenging initiatives into my day to day job whilst upholding the Derby Business School vision.By means of my research enhanced curricular research awards I have always endeavoured to deliver high quality student experiences by means of balancing their employability needs with those of my subject, employer and professional body needs.

Teaching responsibilities

I also lead in the delivery of Information Management, Information systems and Knowledge Management subjects within the School. This covers the spectrum of both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

I am the Module Leader for both the Undergraduate Independent Studies and Applied Business in Practice modules both here in the UK and overseas in Botswana and see these as so important to Derby Business School profile.

I have taught on external programmes and have helped deliver our Masters provision in Botswana and Malawi for some 7 years now.

Research interests

I have been successful in a number of research bids within the University RLTF, TIR, RICF and am currently working on the following research agenda.
An investigation into the dissemination and impact of UOD Problem Based Learning generated knowledge into the Community, Or "If only the community knew what the University of Derby knows?"
Proposed areas of research include: A Learning Town or Knowledge Archipelago: Building a Knowledge-Centred Culture between University and Community and its impact on current regional regeneration agendas.

Within the UK, Higher Education Institutions are widely seen as key contributors to regional economic development and a fundamental part in growth of the knowledge economy. Critically evaluate best practice in how this can occur through knowledge transfer opportunities.

Additional Interests and Activities

I am passionate about Manchester United whom never give up on anything until the final whistle is blown. The American sports coach, Vince Lombardi, once stated, "We are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we won't catch it because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it because in the process we will catch excellence" This is what I apply to Derby Business School.

I enjoy my hobby Wargaming. It brings many things to the academic table also - Strategy, research, history, risk taking and knowing that subject specialist makes the situation better and less challenging.

Postgraduate qualifications

  • DMS
  • MSc
