Experience in Industry
Prior to graduation of my post-graduate degree I was employed by the Ministry of Defence as a Government Research Scientist working in Aviation Medicine.
On graduation from my physiotherapy degree I set up my own private practice and ran this for a number of years; this continued until the point until the majority of my patients/clients required me to see them in their sporting context, thereby removing the need for dedicated premises.
With fellow colleague Lee Rylands and Minas Mina I provided scientific support to the talent identification process in Paralympic cycling for British Cycling.
Current Activities / Links with Industry
With fellow colleagues Adam Baker and Minas Mina I am responsible for the scientific support, strength and conditioning and physiotherapy of elite UK based international track and field athletes, team GB athletes and professional footballers.
Along with Adam Baker I am also regional consultant to the Derbyshire Athletics Network, providing injury screening services and advice on biomechanics and sports-specific conditioning.
In addition to the above I currently act as regional consultant physiotherapist and strength and conditioning specialist to the English Golf Union.
With fellow colleague Lee Rylands we lead a University funded project. The aim of the venture is to design an fully adjustable, upper-body ergometer designed for both training and highly accurate, recordable measurement purposes. The project is managed by Dianne Davies (UoD-Buxton) and highly experienced design engineers (also UoD academics).
