Faculty: Business, Computing and Law
School: School of Law and Criminology
Subject Area: Law
I'm a Senior Lecturer in Law in the School of Law and Criminology, in the Faculty of Business, Computing and Law. I'm also the Programme Leader for the full-time LL.B (Hons) Law programmes.
I'm undertaking a PhD connected with data-protection and personal privacy given flows of information in the public sector organisation; with specific reference to health and justice agencies; and the notion of personal privacy in the law of the UK.
I also work with colleagues in IT Services at the University, undertaking projects concerning data-protection and freedom-of-information compliance across the institution.
Teaching responsibilities
I teach mainly public law modules on a number of modules across the LL.B Law programme, the Joint Honours Law programme and the LLM postgraduate pathways.
Professional interests
My professional interests include the use of new learning technologies such as personal study blogs and online peer review to develop androgogy for legal subjects; as well as examining ways of helping students take a socio-legal approach to their studies. I'm interested in many aspects of teaching law to 'non-lawyers'.
Research interests
My research interests comprise privacy and confidentiality issues of data-protection and freedom-of-information in the public sector organisation; with specific reference to health and justice agencies; and the notion of personal privacy in the law of the UK. I have in the past been awarded a Teaching Informed by Research budget for the project 'Designing a new International Law research module'. I was awarded a 'University Promising Researcher Award' by the University for 2010/11.
Membership of professional bodies and advisory committees
I'm a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
