Experience in Industry

I am also a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 15 years experience of managing major projects within the railway industry. My proven experience comes from working for several major companies in the industry and includes the management of Traction and Rolling Stock, On-Track machines based projects and more recently in Infrastructure based projects. I successfully delivered multi-million pound projects within a commercial environment, demonstrating his ability to deal with technically complex issues and yet still see the larger picture.

I have managed projects for a range of customers and suppliers in the UK as well as in Europe, principally in Sweden, Germany, France, Czech Republic & Switzerland.
 
I worked for 34 years as an engineer in the rail industry.  Significant recent projects included: West Coast Main Line upgrade (Network Rail), Class 92 dual voltage locomotive for the Channel Tunnel (Engineering Link) and Pendolino AC passenger train Safety Cases.  I was also Vice Chair of Derbyshire YMCA.

Supporting the Faculty and School vision:

I currently work as a Sessional Lecturer with University of Derby (since January 2007).  I work for the Derby Business School, within the Faculty of Business, Computing & Law.  I specialise in Business Management, Strategy and also Human Resources Management.  I have lectured in both the UK and also recently in Botswana and Malawi.  I achieved a Level 7 post graduate (Masters Level) course in lecturing - Post Graduate Programme in Teaching & Learning (PGPLT) within the University of Derby.

Teaching responsibilities

I lecture in a range of topics at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, and on professional level courses.

Research interests

Strategic management, cross cultural management, international management, business improvement, operations management, project organisation and management, leadership skills, employability and personal development, motivation.
