Professional interests

I graduated from the University of Salford in 2007 with a degree in Sport Rehabilitation. Following this I spent a year working in the industry with local sports teams and an independent gym. I returned to Salford in 2008 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, which included a bursary to fund a full-time PhD studentship. In this role I taught on the Undergraduate Sport Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy degrees and the MSc Sports Injury and Rehabilitation degree. I was also part of the team which provided Sports Science and Injury Screening support to Manchester City FC, Sale RUFC and Salford Reds RLFC. Alongside my work at Salford I was head of the medical team at Caldy RUFC for 3 years, following which I moved to Sedgley Park RUFC in 2011 where I am the Head Sport Rehabilitator. I also co-own 2 Sports Injury clinics in the North-West which specialise in injury treatment and rehabilitation. I joined the team at the University of Derby in January 2012 as an Associate lecturer and became full-time in September 2012.

Research interests

I am currently nearing completion of my PhD investigating 'The Use of Two-Dimensional Motion Analysis and Functional Performance Tests for Assessment of Knee Injury Risk Behaviour in Athletes'. My PhD focuses on the use of screening tools to assess potential injury risk in the knee, with the hope that these tools can identify those at greatest risk and allow for interventions to be put in place to reduce this. In addition to my PhD research I have an interest in the demands of rehabilitation exercises and their subsequent prescription during recovery from injury. I am interested in how both of these areas can impact both athletes and the general public.
