In my role as Faculty Curriculum Development Manager I am responsible for implementing the University's arrangements for curriculum development, validation and approval; monitoring, evaluation and review processes and ensuring that the Faculty meets the University's quality assurance and quality enhancement policies and procedures.

I am also part of the service sector management team at the School of Culture and Lifestyle, lecturing in hairdressing and spa management.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach a range of modules on undergraduate hairdressing and spa management programmes and I am an independent study supervisor.

Professional interests

I have worked for the University of Derby since 2003 in various roles including, assessor, lecturer, online tutor and assistant subject manager for distributed learning. I have a particular interest in technology enhanced learning and innovative teaching and learning strategies. I am an external examiner for the University of Worcester.

Prior to working in education, I worked in the hairdressing and spa industries for fifteen years; part of this time was spent running my own hairdressing and beauty therapy business. I am passionate about the hairdressing and spa industries and regularly update my commercial skills, having recently undertaken professional development courses with Wella, Toni and Guy and Dermologica.

Research interests

My research interests include; the needs and expectations of online students and supporting vocational students in Higher Education. My subject specific research interests focus on; retailing skills in hairdressing and spa and the evolution of spa treatments.
