Experience in Industry
I have recently retired from the Police Service, having served for 30 years, with the majority of this time spent as an investigator. My specialist areas were investigating child abuse, both 'live' and in a virtual world and I also spent two years investigating allegations of police corruption.
During the last two years I was the lead trainer on Investigation matters at the force training centre, teaching the initial criminal investigation development programme courses, investigative interviewing and specialist courses.
Faculty: Business, Computing and Law
School: School of Law and Criminology
Subject Area: Criminology
I am the pathways leader for the MSc Criminal Investigation programme. This means that I am the liaison between the students and the University, ensuring that the students enjoy a challenging but satisfying experience. I also teach various modules on the MSc. Having an investigation background I am dedicated to making the programme as applied as possible, linking accepted current theory to practice.
I work part time and my hours are generally 8am - 5pm Monday - Wednesday.
Teaching responsibilities
I either teach or co-teach various modules relating to aspects of criminal investigation. These include the core modules 'Criminal Investigation 1, 2 and 3', which explore the investigative process in the UK, looking in detail at topics such as decision making, investigative interviewing and the role of the witness within the Criminal Justice System. I also teach on the Investigating Sexual Offences and Serious Crime modules
Research interests
I am currently involved in an exciting research project, examining the investigative processes of a Midlands police force. The aims are to minimise the attrition rate of prosecutions forwarded to the CPS and raise investigative skills.
Postgraduate qualifications
- MSc Criminal Investigation
