I manage undergraduate and postgraduate courses and staff in the Design Subject area including; Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation, Fashion and Textiles as well as our Computer Games collaborative provision with the School of Computing
Teaching responsibilities
I currently teach on the MDes and MA courses in Visual Communication and also at PhD level.
Professional interests
I am particularly interested in postgraduate study in Design, the role of drawing in the design process, partnerships between industry and education and how good design can impact on social responsibility and affect positive change in society.

I lead the Design and Visual Communication research group and I'm interested in research and practice in;

Children's books; British 1960 - 1990
Reportage and social documentary in art.

Printmaking and Artist's books
History of Visual Communication and publishing;
Contemporary European Comic Imagery and Graphic Novels
English romantic/narrative artists and designers including Bawden, Ravillious, Minton
International Experience
I have travelled to China and Athens on a number of occasions with the University of Derby in connection with collaborative provision and international recruitment. I am a member of the Faculty International Operations group.
Membership of professional bodies and advisory committees
I am an experienced external examiner and external panel validation panel member/advisor at institutions across the UK; appointments have been at University of Dundee; Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Brighton, Kent Institute of Art and Design, Norwich School of Art and Design, Anglia Ruskin University, The University of Wales Wrexham, University of Loughborough, Coventry University and Birmingham City University. I am a member of the University External Examiner Sub Committee of Academic Board.
