Research interests
My research interests cover classical and contemporary social theory and their relationship to the 'continental' tradition in modern European philosophy, with particular focus on 'post-structuralist' French thought and on the Hegelian philosophical tradition and its influence on 'Western Marxist' social theory. My work also addresses substantive questions bearing on the nature of humour and laughter in contemporary culture and society, the conceptualisation of 'reflexive modernity', and the political, ethical and cultural implications of current theories of 'globalisation'.
