Research on planktonic ciliates and gymnamoebae is the current topic of study, but I also have an interest in marine cavernicolous ciliates, microbial processes in aquaculture, the marine ecology of meromitic and anchihaline lagoons and protists from primitive and extreme environments. Research on gymnamoebae is being conducted in the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean.
