HECloud: A Green Cloud Platform for Higher Education, Sino-UK Higher Education Research Partnership for PhD Studies (2012-2014)
This project is an international collaboration project between University of Derby (UK) and Tongji University (China) which is funded by British Council and China Scholarship Council. The primary objectives of the project are to investigate the potential impact of Cloud Computing for HE and design a novel energy-saving virtualisation architecture for green Cloud computing.
Organisation: University of Derby, UK (in collaboration with Tongji University, China)
E-learning Cloud (2012-2013)
This project is funded by University of Derby RLTF. Recent advances in Cloud Computing and virtualization techniques provide an opportunity to develop cost-effective personalised virtual learning environments for distance education. In this project, we are going to develop a novel secure architecture for Cloud-based online learning environments addressing existing online teaching and learning challenges of practice-based resource-intensive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) courses. The aim of the project is to develop a novel Cloud architecture for building next generation personal learning environments to enhance teaching and learning of practice-based ICT online programmes.
Organisation: University of Derby, UK
Higher Education Cloud (2011-2012)
This project is funded by University of Derby RLTF. The Cloud Computing offers a practical approach to enable effective sharing and utilisation of applications over the Internet which has potential to transform Higher Education (HE) learning and business processes. In this project, we are going to develop a novel security assurance architecture of green Cloud Computing for UK HE.

Detecting Terrorist Activities: Making Sense (2010-2013)
This is an EPSRC funded project. The key challenge that the project addresses is the analysis and visualization of multiple sources of multi-modal data that may be partial, unreliable and contradictory. In addressing this challenge we expect to create an interactive visualization-based decision support assistant which collects data, fuses it, analyses it and visualizes the results in a way which can be shared by analysts.

NECTISE, Funded by EPSRC & BAE Systems (2007-2010)
The NECTISE (Network Enabled Capability Through Innovative Systems Engineering) project is a EPSRC/BAE Systems funded research endeavour involving ten UK Universities and BAE Systems with a value of around £4M. The University of Leeds is one of the four academic leaders for the entire programme, leading research activities on system architectures and contributing to the development of Through Life System Management. The goal of my research is to investigate and develop SOA-based architectural strategies and mechanisms appropriate for the through-life delivery of NEC. There are two activities: Architectural Design for Changes; and Coping with Dynamic Evolution and Unknowns. These are analysed and assessed as to whether they are important for, and how they are related to, through-life evolution.

CoLab: e-Science Collaboration between Leeds and Beihang (2006-2009)
The CoLab project is funded by EPSRC (UK) and 863 Program Committee (China). The primary mission of CoLaB is to support the needs of the next generation of Internet computing. Grid Computing is such a promising technology that enables advanced e-Science, e-Business and e-Government applications for the future so it remains our current focus. More specific research topics include, but are not limited to Distributed Systems, Web Services technology, Grid computing, Wireless/Mobile computing, Scientific computing, e-Science, Grid application, Middleware, Security and Privacy, Fault Tolerance, System Testing and System Monitoring.

PhD Project: Data Discovery and Delivery Architecture (2004-2007)
This project is funded by UK Data and Information Fusion, Defence Technology Centre (DIF DTC). The objective of the project is to design a self-organising model for efficient resource discovery in P2P networks by mimicking different human behaviours in social networks.

Surrey Space Centre (SSC) Autonomy Effort (2004-2007)
This project is funded by Surrey Space Centre. Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) developed in Surrey Space Centre is a network of satellites that provides users global natural and man-made disaster monitoring. The aim of the effort is to maximally limit the need for humans to interact with the satellite constellation to perform functions that could be otherwise performed autonomously by the satellite constellation itself (either on the ground or on the actual satellites), then the potential exists for better constellation utilization and more timely responses to users' needs. We identified five distinct layers for the effort. I am responsible for the second layer. The second layer represents the P2P computer network(s) that connects the users to one another as well as to data service providers. The chosen network architecture offers users working in different domains a large degree of flexibility to rapidly share information and enter/leave the network as needed.

M.Sc. project: Building Enterprise Information Portal with Jetspeed (2002-2003)
Typical Internet access requires one to enter a URL to view static Web pages, like MS-DOS commands input. However, portlets give users an opportunity to create personalized portals themselves to offer assorted services and information via portals, which are very much like Windows applications.
