Subject Area: Becoming a Teacher

My main role is in leading the Primary Teacher Education team.

I am also the co-ordinator for English on the Primary Initial Teacher Education programmes. This means that I teach many of the English sessions in the BEd and PGCE programme as well as some on the GTP programme.

I supervise doctoral students and teach on the EdD programme in this country and abroad.

Teaching responsibilities

Primary English, Supervision of Independent Studies, Primary Modern Foreign Languages, supervision and teaching of doctoral students in Education.

Professional interests

English/literacy and literature, story, supporting English as an Additional Language and Primary Modern Languages.

Research interests

I have published in the area of diversity, Special Educational Needs, Schools in Challenging Circumstances, teaching and learning strategies. I'm just about to start a research project looking at the link between storytelling and literacy.

My PhD thesis focused on 'Self-support learning strategies in Year 9 English classes.'
