Programme Leader BA (Hons) Fine Art

I first began working in education in the 1980s and have been involved in numerous educational roles within institutions since that time, including Artists workshops at the Liverpool Tate and Artists Residencies. I have set up and led various Art Foundation programmes, been Head of Subject for Design and Media, and a Head of School of Art and Design, and Creative Arts. I am currently leading the BA (Hons) Fine Art programme working closely with 1st year students on Fine Art - as both their Year Tutor and Personal Tutor - and as a supervisor for Photography students on the MA.

Research interests

My practice centres on the creation of digitally manipulated photographic images that aims to bring together a conjunction of three themes: artistic invention, thwarted narrative and the consequences of looking. I am particularly interested in creating works that concentrate on the problem of pictorial narrative, especially where this intersects with 'realism' and how seemingly emphatic images that deny ultimate decoding raise questions around the differences between 'seeing' and 'reading'.
