At UDAC we carry out assessments of disabled UK students eligible for DSA (Disabled Students' Allowance) due to a disability or specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, or mental illness. We can assess students attending University of Derby or any other university.
Assessments take place on our Derby and Buxton sites. We also have partnership arrangements with other institutions where assessments are carried out and issued through UDAC. Assessments may be conducted at alternative outreach facilities/locations to meet the needs of the student. All assessment venues are accessible to disabled people.
The University of Derby Assessment Centre is a member of the NNAC (National Network of Assessment Centres) and complies with the independent quality standards recommended by the quality assurance body, DSA-QAG. Please visit the DSA-QAG website for further information.
Disabled Students' Allowance
DSA is the main source of funding in Higher Education for disabled students. It can help to meet the additional costs that disabled people incur due to their disability, specific learning difficulty or mental illness. Costs that DSA can help with include equipment, assistive software, support workers and travel. Students must apply for DSA to their funding body (Student Finance England, NHS etc), providing formal evidence of their disability, to obtain permission to assess. For help with applying for DSA, please contact the support services in your institution. For more information on Disabled Students' Allowance visit the DirectGov website.
Timescales
We're currently able to offer assessments at the Buxton and Derby sites to students who have received formal approval to assess from Student Finance England, and who can provide the relevant evidence of disability, within 10 working days of contact with the Centre.
