What is joint honours?

  • This programme can be combined with Sports Psychology, Sports Development, or Sports Massage and Exercise Therapies, which means that you will study two subject ares, giving you a great range of knowledge and skills for your future career.
  • You will be taught by our experienced tutors who work with Olympic, World, European, and Commonwealth Champions in cycling, martial arts, golf, athletics and motor racing.
  • You will receive guest lectures by elite athletes and their coaches whilst on this course.
  • You will develop knowledge, skills and understanding of sports coaching, and cover areas such as physiology and nutrition.
  • It is a really practical course, where you will develop a broad knowledge of coaching techniques and the principles of training, and be able to apply your knowledge through real work experience.
  • You will be able to work towards governing body qualifications, so you will have the qualifications employers are looking for when you graduate.

About the course

If you want to develop your knowledge and skills in sports working this course could be perfect for you.

You will be taught by elite athletes and their coaches and our team have coached World and Olympic cyclists, athletes and martial artists,professional footballers and major winners for the PGA golf tour.

Our theory into practice philosophy will enhance your coaching knowledge and develop your vocational skills. You will be engaged in the process of encouraging athlete potential (whatever the level of participation) and preparing athletes for competition.

You will be given the opportunity to work with sports clubs in the local community. The knowledge gained will enable you to develop progressive practices and coach specific skills that will help you prepare athletes at all levels for competitive environments. Nowhere in the UK will you find this unique blend of knowledge and experience.

The course will serve as an advanced coaching programme for you if you wish to undertake coaching opportunities with sports clubs and National Governing Bodies.

Your lecturers delivering this course have worked with World, European, Olympic and National Champions in a variety of sports. Guest lecturers will include elite athletes including World and Olympic champions.

You will also be able to work towards extra professional qualifications during this course, such as the National Governing Body Awards.

Your career

Sports Coaching helps the development of individuals by improving their performance. Coaching can be influential on a number of different levels, from helping a six year old to learn the basics of how to throw a ball, to guiding experienced performers through an international competition. Coaches are needed at every level of sport participation. Jobs are available in schools, National Governing Bodies, councils and sports clubs.
