Natalie Charman - FdA Hairdressing and Salon Management
Natalie Charman studied FdA Hairdressing and Salon Management.
How did you find the course?
"During the course I was happy with everything that was covered and I found it interesting throughout. The most interesting thing about it was the management side of the course. I could easily transfer the theoretical knowledge I learned in the lecture theatre to the practical side in the salon."
How did you find the lecturers and support?
"The support that I had from the lecturers was amazing. As I was studying for my NVQs alongside my degree, this was great to have."
How has your degree helped your career?
"I am currently running a business, and I'm currently looking into purchasing my own salon, which without my management knowledge I don't think I would feel ready to do."
What skills did you develop during the course?
"I have gained a great amount of practical knowledge. I was also able to see how different people of different ages communicate and work together, and develop my communication skills."
What would you say to a student coming to study here?
"I would say to them: Go for it! You need to get the balance of working and studying right but the skills that you learn are really worth it."
How would you sum up your experience overall?
"My experience at Buxton has been good. Going to such a small university has its advantages. You get to know everyone. You're not just a number like some people are within bigger universities. The tutors are amazing, and without their support I wouldn't have gained the degree that I did, so I can't thank them enough for their support."
