Applied Mental Health
Our staff are qualified, practising counsellors, psychotherapists, or mental health nurses so they're really up to date with what's going on in practice.
They teach from experience and use lots of clinical examples. This will ensure that you get the very best standard of teaching from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
You can study flexibly
You can study full time or part time, and many of our courses have step-on step-off options, so they'll really fit in with your lifestyle.
Some of our courses allow you to study online so you do not have to come in to the University.

Counsellors and Psychotherapists
If you decide to become an effective practitioner you could work in a wide range of settings including:
- private practice
- as part of employee assistance programmes
- schools, colleges and universities
- GP surgeries
- prisons
- voluntary sector.
As a Counsellor or Psychotherapist you'll work with lots of different people, for example: children, adolescents, people of working age, people who have retired, families and couples. This means you'll have a promising career and you can specialise in a certain group of people if you want to.
Mental Health Nurses
If you choose the Mental Health Nurse route you'll work in the following settings:
- hospitals
- clinics
- outreach teams
- people's homes
- voluntary organisations.
Some of our courses are accredited
Some of our courses are accredited by national professional organisations. These include the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, which is one of the leading bodies nationally and internationally in the development of good practice in counselling, and the nursing and midwifery council which governs nursing practice.
If you successfully complete one of our courses, you'll be recognised by the appropriate professional body.
