Rachel Sanderson - BA (Hons) Sport and Exercise Studies

Rachel Sanderson

I have enjoyed studying all modules, the balance of learning theory and applying it within practical situations has made my experience here valuable, to say the least.

The course

"After taking a year out I came to the conclusion I missed learning, I missed playing sports, and I missed being part of an environment where you could constantly see people working hard, achieving goals, and making a concerted effort to succeed. University seemed the perfect solution to my problem. And Derby provided me with all that I needed as I started on my journey towards gaining that vital degree."

The opportunities

"Within the third year of my Sport and Exercise Studies degree I was lucky enough to gain an internship position working within Team Derby. Working alongside the Universities Sport Participation Officer I was able to put the academic skills I had acquired over the past three years into action. I spent time conducting research within the student population here at Derby regarding participation in Sport and Physical Activity, and was also put in a position to be able to suggest ways to improve participation within the University."

The future

"Completing my BA (Hons) Sport and Exercise Studies degree has given me the confidence, knowledge, and motivation to carry on studying at Postgraduate level. I have developed a strong interest within the area of Sport Psychology, and wish to pursue the discipline. The precise direction I am going to take towards Postgraduate study is not yet confirmed. However which ever route I am able to take I know I will pursue with great confidence, and excitement, on my journey to continue furthering my knowledge within the specialist field of Sport Psychology."
