Jamie Adams - Sport and Exercise Science HND/Degree

Jamie Adams

I believe the practical sessions help put lecture content into context and this helped my understanding without doubt

Jamie is currently in his final year of the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science degree.

The journey

Jamie had worked in many offices before he came to university. Whilst he was working he realised that this is not what he wanted to do, this prompted him to apply for the course.

"I decided I wanted to be a PE teacher and this requires a degree qualification. I initially applied to Derby University degree course and due to my previous low grades at A level, they offered me the HND course with a view to move onto the degree course on the condition I achieved C grade or above in at least 4 modules."

The course

"Due to my interest in sport, exercise and how the human body works, I really enjoyed writing and spending time on assignments. The support provided by the university and its staff has been outstanding; they always have time for you and the problems you may bring to their door. So far, I would sum up my experience at the University as 'Pleasantly Surprising'."

"I would recommend this course to anyone who is remotely interested in sport or exercise because most of the topics are interesting, which makes the work less of a burden; the staff are friendly, passionate and approachable; the facilities available are forever improving and I feel it can help develop your career prospects, in which ever field you are pursuing."

The future

"My future plans are to enrol on a teacher training course to gain QTS and become a PE teacher at a secondary school; however, the degree will give me scope to move my career in any direction I chose. I would like to think my experiences on the course have improved me as a person and I have become more confident as a result."
