We're proud of the excellent facilities that we can offer to our Sport and Exercise students at Derby.
The new multi-million pound Sports Centre
The brand new £10.8m Sports Centre is now open.
The multi-purpose, state-of-the-art facility is home to a superb Fitness Suite, Strength, Conditioning and Performance Suite, Climbing and Bouldering Wall, Squash Courts, and more.
The Centre has been built to a BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) standard, widely used as a method to assess buildings' sustainability, reaffirming the University's commitment to protecting the environment.
Sport and Exercise Physiology Laboratory
Our specialist laboratories enable our students to undertake physiological and biomechanical assessment.
Recently Derby County FC visited our Sport and Exercise facilities for their pre-season fitness tests. Sport and Exercise Science staff and students guided 26 players through the fitness tests to gain an insight in to their current fitness levels and help inform the Rams pre-season training programmes. Find out more and see the images from the day here.
Strength and Conditioning Suite
The Sport and Exercise Science Strength and Conditioning facilities are housed on the Kedleston Road campus within the Derbyshire Institute of Sport facilities. Students on Strength and Conditioning modules have access to this space as part of their studies in both formal structured module content and additional peer led sessions.
Kirtley Building is a hive of activity for our students, teaching and research. Just some of the facilities in our Kirtley Building include a specialist strength and conditioning area, dance studio with floor to ceiling mirrors and a sprung floor, and kirtley hall with a large open space for practicals.
Indoor and outdoor facilities
We have a number of indoor and outdoor facilities which are used for teaching, research and sporting activities. These include a 3G all-weather pitch, tennis courts, rugby pitch and a sports hall.
