- BSc (Hons) Geography -studying part time
When employers are making up shortlists for a job I decided I didn't want to be on the pile of those without a degree.
I've deliberately taken the 'scenic route' to getting my degree, fitting my studies around my full time job, as a Senior Marketing Analyst, since I started the course in 2002.
It was important to me that I could study part time, I'd looked at other universities where this wasn't possible, but as soon as I rang Derby they were brilliant about it.
I was originally attracted to the Geography course because in my marketing role I use a lot of geographical information systems, which plot things like customer movements and how far they'll travel to get to particular shops and retail outlets.
I've been able to do a lot on human geography statistics and changes in spending patterns on the degree course. I wanted to understand more about the systems I use, not just be a button pusher.
