More Information
I really enjoyed my degree. There was a much more relaxed atmosphere than school and I felt able to approach my lecturers if I was having difficulty with work or just needed a chat. The lecturers were always willing to help; they all wanted us to succeed and if you were willing to give it your all so were they.
One brilliant aspect of my degree was fieldtrips. Fieldtrips enable you to be hands on with your studies and it really helped my understanding to see things first hand. Additionally, fieldtrips are great fun and gave me the opportunity to get to know my course mates and my lecturers better.
Study abroad
The great thing about Derby’s study abroad programme was that I didn’t have to have a year out, or end up a semester behind my course mates who decided study abroad wasn’t for them. I was able to spend one semester away and then come back to rejoin my friends on my degree course.
As part of my degree I studied abroad for one semester in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I spent four months studying at Windsor University. After that a friend and I spent two months travelling on the Greyhound Bus across America, from Boston to Seattle and then back across Canada from Vancouver to Toronto. This was the experience of a lifetime. It was amazing! It allowed me to fully experience another lifestyle as I wasn’t just visiting the country I actually lived and studied there. I met so many people and made some good friends and just had a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend to anyone who has the chance to study abroad, take it and enjoy every moment!
I'm currently working now so that I can save enough money to go travelling for a year or so, as my time studying abroad gave me the "travel bug". When I get back from my travels I hope to start working toward becoming a teacher.
