Strong links with employers

Forensic Students

I found it amazing, well, even better than amazing. I don't think I can really describe my feelings about it all.

We have strong links with employers in our region, such as Derbyshire Constabulary and Scientifics Forensic Laboratories where you can conduct your research project or do a placement. Last year Forensic Graduates Catheryn Howells and Kimberley Walton both conducted work experience at Derbyshire Constabulary with Catheryn completing a 12 month placement alongside Scenes of Crimes Officers. This year current third year Christine Cresswell gained work experience as a mortuary technician at Royal Derby Hospital.

Kimberley says of her work experience "I found it amazing, well, even better than amazing. I don't think I can really describe my feelings about it all. I learnt a great deal and saw a forensic PM, a reconstruction where vehicles in a current investigation get placed together to identify how they met in a collision, a visit to the storage facility for the recovered cars to name a few things. I also got to ride in a fast response police car unmarked with the 'blues and twos' going and doing over 100mph to recover a vehicle in a hit and run fatal."

Another student, Christine Creswell, did some work in the Derby City Mortuary. "I volunteered to work in Derby City Mortuary for a few months last summer and loved the experience. I was made to feel part of the Mortuary Team right from the start working there also gave me a very valuable insight into how a city Mortuary is run and also into a possible career as a Mortuary Technician."
