“Derby University was a good place to study and the staff were always very willing to help. The best part of the course was the fieldwork which was set in some very scenic and interesting places. "Derby was a great place to study, the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and the course, provided me with the skills required for employment. I particularly enjoyed the volcanology, and igneous petrology modules, including the fieldtrip to Tenerife in December 2001. I also especially enjoyed the research work undertaken for my final year thesis, and received plenty of support with this and my degree as a whole. I am now working for a large multinational organisation, based in one of their North Yorkshire offices. Staff in my position can expect to earn between 15K and 23K depending on location and experience. I got this job based on the sound geological training and research techniques learnt during my time at Derby."

Graduated: 2002, BSc (Hons) Geology (2:1)

"The benefits of studying at Derby have been advantageous in two respects, first, the tutors are held in high regards in academic circles so you know you'll receive a good education comparable to some of the more prestigious universities. Secondly, Derby provides an education in geology in an applied format, which has certainly stood me in good stead while applying for jobs in a geological field. Throughout the course I've enjoyed every aspect of individual modules as they're all interrelated and form a greater understanding of the geological processes that occur on our planet."

Graduated: 2004, BSc (Hons) Geology
