Students and staff attended the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) conference to present some of their work.

In November 2012, four posters were presented at the prestigious NCRI conference in Liverpool.

Featured was the work of:

  • Dr Heidi Sowter (Reader in Oncology at the University of Derby) whose poster entitled "Expression of PAX8 in ovarian carcinomas" was a collaborative research project in conjunction with the University of Southern California.
  • Heidi's PhD student, Steph Archer, won a student bursary from the NCRI to present "Yoga for Gynaecological Cancer Patients: The Patient Experience", which was based on the results of a randomised clinical trial that was carried out at the University between 2011 and 2012 as part of her PhD.
  • PhD student Ian Shropshire presented a poster based on chemical biology: "Shelf-life Extension Stability Studies of Reconstituted Herceptin: A biological and physicochemical assessment".
  • And Anthony Mullin presented a poster on "Trastuzumab drug stability: Challenging current shelf life validation using a novel combined biophysical & biological approach". Anthony completed this work for his Independent Study project and graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Chemical Biology in January 2013.
