  • MRes (Biological Sciences) - you'll undertake your own original research project in an area of your choice which will enhance your career opportunities.
  • MSc Conservation Biology - you'll study why so many species are under threat and will develop skills in the management of species and the wider environment.

Our biological sciences courses are recognised by the Society of Biology, which means that you'll meet their requirements for Associate Membership of the Society of Biology when you graduate and you'll be able to apply for full membership when you have appropriate professional experience.

Interesting field studies

You'll have opportunities to do fieldwork in many interesting places in the UK and abroad. You could go on a seal watch on the east coast, study animal interaction at Twycross Zoo, spend a week undertaking a project in Majorca or study how plants adapt to their environment at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.

All the staff in our department are dedicated to putting their students first. They use their research to inform their teaching so that their research informs your undergraduate curriculum.

Inspiring research

The research in our department was found to be of 'international significance' by the Government Research Assessment Exercise. We're spearheading research in many fields, including the function and evolution of nuptial feeding and aggression in insects, molecular conservation genetics and evolutionary biology, modelling biodiversity and ecosystem function, plant conservation biotechnology, interactions of toxic metals with biota, aquatic ecology and plankton assemblages in marine waters, ecology and conservation of vascular plants.
