Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Design Group

The Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering and Production Design Research group was developed in 1995 and now runs within the Engineering and Built Environment Subject Group at the University of Derby. The research activities within this group focus mainly upon Manufacturing Techniques & Systems, Mechanical Analysis by CFD and FEA, Manufacturing Management, Mechatronics, Industry Robot and Intelligent Systems. These activities include newly developed directions towards newest investigated technologies, such as Nano manufacturing, e-Manufacturing and Intelligent Machines and Systems. The emerge and development of such technologies are the fundamental stone for the country's economical development.

The research group's projects are mainly the industry application projects and the group will be the strong techniques support centre for SME enterprises in knowledge transfer and knowledge application. The Research Group has acknowledged expertise in the following areas:

  • Intelligent Manufacturing System
  • VR in Manufacturing Engineering
  • FEA & CFD Analysis in Design
  • Lean Manufacturing and Agile Manufacturing
  • Operations and Production Management
  • Mechatronics
  • Industrial Robot
  • Intelligent Training System of Auto-CAD or 3D Modeling Tools
  • e - Manufacturing
