Working to improve standards of patient care

Working on a number of collaborative projects

Dr Jonathan Bayly, an associate lecturer in osteoporosis, is currently involved in a number of collaborative research projects.

Evaluating standard in the management of patients at risk of osteoporosis and falls

With the University of Nottingham's QRESEARCH Team, he took part in a study to evaluate standards in the management of patients at risk of osteoporosis and falls in a primary care setting. This study, which was published by the Information Centre, together with the National Clinical Audit, is proving instrumental in affecting Government policy in this disease area.

Evaluating standards of care in hospitals

Jonathan has also been working with colleagues in the Clinical Standards Department at the Royal College of Physicians on the National Clinical Audit of Falls and Bone Health published by the Healthcare Commission. This study evaluated standards of care in hospitals and involved 90% of hospital trusts in England and Northern Ireland.

Looking at the experiences of teriparatide users

In another project with fellow colleague Professor Tahir Masud, and in collaboration with Eli Lilly and Copenhagen University Hospital, he presented data on the experience of over 1,200 long term teriparatide users.

Study focused on the need for more support for carers

And another study on the experience of carers of stroke survivors was presented at the recent British Geriatrics Society annual conference, underlining the need for increased supoport for carers.
