Examining the attitide of young British Pakistanis to their health

Although she trained in the biological sciences, Asiya Malik examined sociological factors related to health awareness and promotion for her Doctorate.

She decided to investigate the attitude of young British Pakistanis to health, and their awareness of the dangers of coronary heart disease and diabetes affecting their community.

Discovering the cultural factors involved

She also wanted to find out if they understood how cultural factors influence health and the extent to which health education could be more effective.

In undertaking this research for her thnesis on the health issues of British Pakistani Muslim children, Asiya talked to 14 - 17 year olds to examine general health awareness among young British Pakistanis.
