University Research Ethics Committee (UREC)

The University Research Ethics Committee (UREC) is responsible for the oversight of all matters relating to the prior ethical consideration of research undertaken at the University of Derby. Its purpose is to ensure that investigations are progressive whilst not damaging the Institution or the interests of individuals who are participant to, or the subject of, such research.

Specifically its role is to ensure that the University "Research Ethics Policy and Code of Practice" (Word, 204k) is applied across the University. This relates to research activities undertaken by all staff, and students pursuing undergraduate (UG), postgraduate taught (PGT), postgraduate research (PGR) or postgraduate professional (PGP) awards or by a visiting research worker. It is required to monitor and support the activities of the Subject Research Ethics Committees in their delivery of the Ethics Policy and Code of Practice.

UREC is responsible to the University Research and Research Degrees Committee and reports into the University Quality Enhancement Committee.
