Students in the park at Buxton

Properties in Derby

The most popular area for student housing is between the Derby Campus and the city centre. It's easy to walk from the roads around Kedleston Road, Uttoxeter New Road and Ashbourne Road to the teaching sites.

The city centre and Burton Road area are also popular, but it's a bit further to walk.

If you have your own transport, you may want to consider properties in Allestree, Mackworth, Littleover and Mickleover.

Properties in Buxton

All our approved properties are in Buxton town centre, so they're a short walk or bus ride from the Devonshire Campus.

Shared houses

This is the most popular and economical type of student housing.

You'll usually rent a room in a house, and you'll share the kitchen, bathroom, and living room with other students.

There are usually plenty of houses for three to five students available.

Bedsits and self-contained flats

A bedsit is usually a room with some amenities, such as cooking and washing facilities. You may have to share a bathroom with other residents.

Self-contained flats have a bathroom and kitchen that's just for you.

Bedsits and self-contained flats are ideal if you want to live on your own or with one other person.

Lodging with the home owner

If you choose this option, you'll rent a room in your landlord's own home. You'll usually need to provide your own meals, but sometimes your landlord will provide your breakfast and evening meal.

It's ideal if you're a mature student who likes to go home at weekends, or if you only need to stay for two or three nights a week. Some international students in particular prefer to live with a family.

We don't include this type of property in our registered housing scheme.
