Learning Beyond Registration
Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is a vital part of developing competent, capable health service practitioners prepared to deliver a dynamic, flexible, quality, client-focused service. If you're employed by the NHS in the East Midlands then you may be eligible for fee-free access to our LBR modules and/or programmes. You'll need to supply evidence of approval from your line manager and Trust Education Lead when you apply.
About this module
The Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing will enable nurses and pharmacists to practice and develop as independent prescribers and to meet the standards set by the GPhC, NMC and the Department of Health (DoH).
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module you will:
- Develop your knowledge of the pathophysiology of the condition being treated and recognition of the signs and symptoms of the condition being treated
- Gain an understanding of the pharmacology, concepts and principles underpinning safe prescribing.
- Understand the responsibility that the role of Independent Prescriber entails, and use diagnostic aids relevant to conditions for which they will prescribe
- Demonstrate understanding of the legal, ethical and professional framework for accountability and responsibility in prescribing.
- Apply knowledge and clinical assessment skills to prescribe safely and cost effectively.
- Appraise sources of information which inform and influence prescribing practice.
- Develop a shared approach to decision making, and an effective relationship and communication with patients, carers, other prescribers and members of the healthcare team.
- Utilise prescribing skills for the benefit of patients, the healthcare team and service provision.
