Outdoors, Countryside and Adventure Tourism graduates

Phil Holman

"I enjoyed my time at Buxton and upon reflection have realised that since graduating I have been using a surprising amount of the skills and information gathered on the degree."

Phil graduated from the University of Derby Buxton with a BA (Hons) Outdoor Activities Management degree in 2009, and is now Head of Paddlesports for Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre at the Isle of Dogs, London.

He coaches corporate clients, as well as young people in a range of paddlesports including kayaking, canoeing and sailing along the Thames, in the shadow of London's Canary Wharf.

Phil's role also includes youth and community development which is supported through global financial and banking businesses.

Jess Weston

"Since leaving Uni I've worked with In2action firstly abroad as a manager in France and Lanzarote and now I am their UK adventure product manager. I am responsible for the school product so children come on holiday with their school (up to 124 per week). I am responsible for the staff team, training and development, finance, sales and marketing, programming, facility usage, food, accommodation and transport.

I am also starting a PTTLS in April so I can teach travel and tourism at FE level which I am really looking forward too.

I would say that University of Derby Buxton was a great experience. All the lecturers have lots of time for the students and nothing is ever too much trouble. They are extremely passionate and knowledgeable which gives students the professional edge when leaving."
