Oaklands Manor in Buxton will provide you with a fantastic outdoor, adventure and countryside 'classroom', a dedicated outdoor pursuits centre where you can develop leadership management and outdoor activity skills.

58-acres of mixed woodlands, a 30 foot high climbing wall, a complex high ropes course including a 'leap of faith', three low rope courses, an artifical underground caving course, dry stone walls, broad leaved woodlands and moorland landscapes; will be your classroom. Not only will you learn and hone your skills, but you'll also be given the opportunity to run the facilities at Oaklands Manor, which include purpose-built accommodation suitable for outward bound groups, team building facilities and the Oaklands Manor House itself.

Our Buxton Campus is located in the heart of the Peak District National Park. What better place to turn your passion for the outdoors into a great career.

Get a professional qualification

You will be able to gain professional qualifications during your course. These include National Governing Body awards in mountain leader training, rock climbing and canoeing, as well as the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management Certificate.

What you'll learn and what students think of the course

Get ready for work

There are lots of practical outdoor sessions and field trips. Our students recently had the opportunity to go on a Winter Skills trip to Scotland. One student told us "I attended the winter skills trip this year and it was awesome!" By going on trips like these you will be able to put your theory into practice.

Buxton and the Derbyshire Dales are a fantastic setting for understanding and developing your practical and managerial adventure skills.

We will provide you with the opportunity to do a placement either in the UK or abroad, which will look great on your CV.

Countryside Management student Dave Drury is now working as an Assistant Ranger at Carsington Water, following his successful work placement.

One of our current outdoor students, Tiff, is working at an indoor climbing wall centre in Stockport, near Manchester called Awesome Walls, whilst on her course so she is gaining valuable experience.

You can read what employers say about our students currently on work placement.
