If you're interested in getting a job in one of the following areas, you are entitled to free training!

Engineering

  • Introduction to welding stage 1

             An introduction to welding techniques and the workshop environment. This includes health and safety, personal safety and basic use of equipment.

  • Award in fabrication and welding practice

A chance to develop basic welding skills using MMA, MIG and TIG processes. This includes an introduction to the identification and use of professional equipment reflecting industry standards.

  • Introduction to fork lift trucks

This one day awareness course looks at the safe use of forklift trucks, lifting equipment inspections, stability issues and basic operating skills.

  • National Plant Operators Registration Scheme

After successfully completing the introduction to Fork lift trucks you can gain an industry recognised qualification that proves competence in Forklift Truck Counterbalance operations.

 

Health and Social Care

  • Introduction to health care services

This short programme includes an awareness of life care, and will focus on developing confidence and initiatives, importance of communication, practical skills, understanding of care values and the user's and carer's rights and responsibilities in caring within the health and social care, early years and care sectors. This will provide the participant with progression into the four day course, entitled "Who cares?" or a suitable NVQ programme.

  • Who cares

This two day course of study will provide you with some insight into the caring services, including private and voluntary care. You'll learn about the different types of care, you'll be aware of some of the skills required for working in the caring services, and the personal skills attributes and aspects of health and safety. On completion of this two day programme you'll be able to access progression opportunities for NVQ Health and Social Care Level 2 or NVQ in Children's Care Learning and Development (CCLD) Level 2.

 

Hospitality and Catering

  • Introduction to food safety

Introduction to the safe handling of food. Ordering and receipt of goods, preparation of cold dishes, completion of a food safety certificate.

  • Introduction to restaurant service

Introduction to professional restaurant food service and this may include experience in both our Bistro and Fine Dining venues.

  • Introduction to a professional kitchen

Working in a professional kitchen within health, safety and hygiene guidelines. Using industry standard specialist equipment, and the skills of a professional chef. Safe handling of knives and preparation of some basic food dishes. Completion of a food safety certificate.


Hairdressing and Beauty

  • Introduction to professional hairdressing stage 1

A chance to get a taste of working in a professional hairdressing salon. Assisting and observing our students carrying out professional duties associated with a commercial environment, for example preparing clients for a range of treatments.

  • Introduction to professional hairdressing salon stage 2

Working in our professional salon. Introduction to health and safety, reception duties, preparation of service areas, introduction and use of professional equipment and basic techniques. This includes a small element of theory associated with the practical tasks to be undertaken.

  • Introduction to professional beauty therapy stage 1

A chance to get a taste of working in a beauty therapy salon. Assisting and observing our students carrying out professional duties associated with a commercial environment, for example preparing clients for a range of treatments.

  • Introduction to professional beauty therapy stage 2

Working in our professional salon. Introduction to health and safety, reception duties, preparation of service areas, introduction and use of professional equipment and basic techniques. This includes a small element of theory associated with the practical tasks to be undertaken.

Security

  • BIIAB National Certificate for Door Supervisors

A nationally recognised qualification which includes legal requirements and practical strategies to perform this demanding role. It enables a door supervisor to apply for an SIA licence to practice.


Construction

  • Introduction to plastering

An introduction to this specialist construction skill.

  • Basic plastering techniques

Hands on training in the development of basic practical skills associated with this area of work. The training also includes health and safety.

  • Introduction to brickwork

An introduction to general construction trades. The programme consists of a combination of  practical and theory work.
