Students' Union

So, a little bit about the University of Derby Students' Union, also known as the UDSU, SU and the Union. Once you've enrolled at the University of Derby you automatically become a member of the Students' Union giving you access to all of our facilities and services. This includes the Source, a fantastic, nationally recognised support and advice service which can be accessed via email, telephone or in person.

The Students' Union is an independent organisation, run by students, for students and is separate to the University. We are here to make sure thatall students studying at the University of Derby are fairly represented. It is a non-profit organisation and all the proceeds from our commercial services are reinvested back into providing and improving our services for students.

The Students' Union is headed up by five full time sabbatical officers and numerous part time officers who have been elected by the student body. The officers have an active voice within both the University and NUS and are here to listen to all our members, to implement positive changes, and to represent you. It's important to remember that we can't make changes if we don't know what to change; therefore we welcome you and every other member of the Students' Union to have your say.

We offer all students the opportunity to become a Course Representative. Course Reps represent the needs and issues of their peers to the University with support from the Students' Union. If you feel like you want to make a difference then being a Course Rep is the perfect opportunity.

We produce a monthly 'Dusted' magazine which is written by students and is available for download from our website. Anyone can write for Dusted, so why not try your hand at bit of creative writing or writing some music or film reviews and have your article published? Email the committee for more information at dusted@udsu.co.uk . You can also keep up to date via our website www.udsu.co.uk.

Our website is packed full of information on what we stand for, what we strive to achieve and what we offer to our members. The Source, our independent advice service provides support and advice to all students on a large range of issues - from depression and bereavement to housing and finances, plus, of course, academic issues including appealing against a mark, making a complaint and dealing with academic offences.

You will also find details of future events and news items on the website, plus a list of contact details. Our Facebook page www.facebook.com/udsupage is a great way of keeping in touch with what's going on at your Students' Union; you can also follow your Students' Union on Twitter - www.twitter.com/udsu for instant up to date information!
