What made you decide to do this course?
Having worked as a contractor for a number of years, I was fortunate enough to be able to complete an Executive Education certificate at Harvard Business School. This wonderful experience prompted me to consider studying for something more formal and extensive. Therefore, when a contract expired I decided to take time off to study. As a self funded student I needed a course that was cost effective but importantly had to be recognised and respected. As a CIMA fellow, I was afforded prior learning credits which reduced the overall cost. Plus, I wanted the opportunity to learn and explore something other than just finance (my bread and butter) which this course allowed me to do. I particuarly enjoyed the strategic marketing section and did my research study and dissertation on Internet and Social Media Advertising. The faculty staff were well versed and qualified to help me in what was a new arena of study for me.
How would you describe your online student experience?
As I acheived my MBA with merit, I must conclude that this form of study was very effective. The course content was well structured and suited to the course.
What did you find particularly beneficial?
Successful online study revolves around flexibility and self discipline. Online access and the robustness of UDo certainly afforded plenty of flexibility to study.
What would you say to anyone considering an online degree at Derby?
I like the fact that at graduation there was no distinction between campus based and online students and the awards had equal standing - something I had concerns about with other institutions I looked at. The graduation day itself was super and I will treasure the memory for a very long time. Overall, I would recommend anyone considering this mode of study to seriously consider the University of Derby Online.
How has your degree helped your career?
As a mature student in the 'September' of my career, I must confess my motivation was less concerned with career progression and more about self improvement and self worth. The course did count significantly towards my Professional CPD but, mainly it was to do with a sense of achievement, which on completion was wonderful!
