What made you decide to do this course?
Initially I wanted to do an MBA (as my degree is Business Administration) but then, whilst looking at the different Master degrees offered, I spotted this one. Law is something I enjoy, and was also an element of my degree, so I looked into this one a bit more. It was aimed at people who have some knowledge of law - not necessarily a solicitor. I liked some of the modules on offer and as I was working in the Local Authority at the time, it offered me the opportunity to move my career path so I thought that I would apply and see if I would be accepted.
How would you describe your online student experience?
Fantastic! I liked the fact that I could study when I wanted, have access to all the course materials in one way, rather than having to wait for it to be uploaded week upon week. UDo was really helpful and easy to use. Everything you needed was there to download, go to, or read online.
What did you find particularly beneficial?
Having all the resources available in one accessible place, including downloads, websites, reading lists and the lectures. My independent mentor gave excellent advice and was contactable not just via email but also by phone. He helped me push myself that bit further each time to achieve the best grades that I could.
What would you say to anyone considering an online degree at Derby?
Give it a go. You will be suprised at how easy it actually is. If you have limited hours then this is perfect for you. You can dip in and out at your leisure. Do as little or as much as you like, and you are not constricted to just do a week at a time. Pefect for when you have the time to yourself to really crack on and gets lots of studying done. You get the university experience from the freedom of your own home.
How has your online degree helped your career
I am now no longer working in an office. I am an adult education tutor, undertaking my PGCE In-Service, teaching in secondary schools, as well as teaching adults. This has shown me that I am capable of more and given me the opportunity to teach a subject that I love.
