Fee information for 2012/2013
For information about the cost of our courses, please refer to the individual course pages.
You may notice that some courses have 15 credit modules and others 20 credit modules. Read our simple explanation of what this means and how it may affect your course structure and fees.
Flexible payment plans
As an online student, you are eligible to choose from three payment plans:
1. Pay as you study
This payment plan allows you to spread the cost of your module fees over four months, as shown in the examples below:
Example A: Studying one module per term (module price £405)
| Month payment is due | ||||
| Autumn Term | Spring Term | Summer Term | Monthly payment | Cost per month |
| Sept | Jan | May | 40% | £162 |
| Oct | Feb | Jun | 20% | £81 |
| Nov | Mar | Jul | 20% | £81 |
| Dec | Apr | Aug | 20% | £81 |
| TOTAL | 100% | £405 | ||
Example B: Studying two modules per term (module price £405 x 2)
| Month payment is due | ||||
| Autumn Term | Spring Term | Summer Term | Monthly payment | Cost per month |
| Sept | Jan | May | 40% | £324 |
| Oct | Feb | Jun | 20% | £162 |
| Nov | Mar | Jul | 20% | £162 |
| Dec | Apr | Aug | 20% | £162 |
| TOTAL | 100% | £810 | ||
2. Pay the full cost of your course upfront and avoid annual increases
Each year all of our courses are subject to an annual fee increase. If you pay the full cost of your course at enrolment, you will not be subject to any annual increases for the duration of your studies.
For example, if you are a UK student and wish to study BA (Hons) Business Studies, you can pay the full amount of £9,720 at the point of enrolment.
If you are a non UK student and wish to study BA (Hons) Business Studies, you can pay the full amount of £10,800.
3. Pay for full academic year upon enrolment and receive a 5% discount (September enrolment only)
Pay for all of the modules you are studying in this academic year, when you enrol in September, and you'll receive a 5% discount.
NB: This option is only available when you enrol for September start and if you are self-funding your studies. If you are being sponsored by your employer or in receipt of a loan, the 5% discount does not apply.
Example A - UK student who wishes to study BSc (Hons) Psychology starting in September
| Cost of each module is £600 - if you take 3 modules in the academic year (£600 x 3) | £1,800 |
| Less 5% discount | - £90 |
| Total amount payable for the academic year (at enrolment in September) | £1,710 |
Example B: Non UK student wishing to study BSc (Hons) Psychology starting in September
| Cost of each module is £840 - if you take 3 modules in the academic year (£840 x 3) | £2,520 |
| Less 5% discount | - £126 |
| Total amount payable for the academic year (at enrolment in September) | £2,394 |
Different fees for UK and non UK students
Because of the way university courses are funded in the UK, we offer lower tuition fees to students who are ordinarily resident in the UK. UK students must have settled status in the UK, and will normally have been a UK resident for the 3 years before the start date of your course. Contact us if you are unsure whether you are a UK or non UK student.
Important Information
- Online Distance Learning programmes are classed as part time study and therefore you are unable to claim a full time loan.
- Students Award Agency Scotland (SAAS) do not fund part time courses outside of Scotland. If you are a Scottish resident applying for one of our online courses, you are therefore unable to claim for funding.
- Student Finance Wales (SFW) - our online courses are registered with the Welsh Assembly to allow students who are resident in Wales to apply for funding when applying for one of our courses.
- It is the student's responsibility to ensure that funding is in place to cover their fees and to liaise with the funding agency.
- Students are responsible for any discrepency between tuition fees and the amount of funding received.
- For new students, the arrangements for part time funding for courses running in 2012/2013 will be changing from September 2012 to a repayable loan system. Students who are receiving grants for their current studies up to then will still be able to claim a part time grant until they complete their current programme of study.
- Withdrawal or cancellation fees are applicable post registration. Contact us for further information or to discuss your options.
There may be exam fees
If your course includes exams (many don’t), you can either take them at our UK campuses in Derby or Buxton, or at a place closer to you.
UK students: If you can't come to Derby and would prefer to choose a location that’s nearer to you, you will need to pay an additional fee of £100 per exam, to cover the organisational and administrative costs.
Non UK students: Your exam fees are already included in the cost of your course. However, you will need to organise your exams at an approved local institute but we will contact you prior to your examination to make the necessary arrangements.
Please note, that all students are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs incurred.
