If you have an undergraduate degree in a non-psychology subject but would like to explore or pursue a career in Psychology, then this University Certificate will give you 60 credits of undergraduate psychology, enabling you to then apply for a psychology conversion course - such as our MSc Psychology Conversion, which is accredited by the British Psychological Society

An introduction to the core areas of psychology

You'll gain an introduction to fundamental elements of psychology, e.g. cognitive, developmental, social and biological psychology. We'll also introduce you to research methods, a crucial skill you'll need to develop and advance psychological thought.

In addition to introducing you to some of the core areas of psychology, studying the University Certificate in Psychology will also allow you to gain the basic concepts and skills you need to successfully study psychology online. Throughout the course, you'll be part of an online community learning and networking with each other through discussion groups and email.

Entry requirements: 

You will need at least one of the following:

  • An undergraduate degree with at least 2nd class Honours (in any subject) from a UK university, or equivalent overseas qualification – at least a 2:2
  • A Masters degree from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification
  • An undergraduate degree from an overseas institution that is equivalent to the above UK qualifications. However, if you have overseas qualifications, we do advise that you gain the UK equivalent. It is also important that you have a good standard of written and spoken English.

English language qualifications

If English is not your first language you will need an English language qualification. For this course you will need at least one of the following:

  • IELTS 6.0
  • TOEFL 550 (paper based) 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet based)
  • Pearson Test of Academic English: 51
  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate: Pass
  • London Tests of English: we accept level 4 for undergraduate courses
  • International GCE O Level English Language: Grade C
  • International GCSE English/English as a Second Language: Grade C

Career information: 

This course is a first step into a career within psychology and a gateway to our BPS accredited MSc Psychology Conversion course which has been devised to confer Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).

It is also a useful short course for those wishing to investigate, or take the first steps, towards a career in Psychology without committing to an extensive period of study.
