Our careers advisers will help you focus on your strengths, choices, decisions and career plans, at the same time as providing practical help with applications, CVs and interviews.

Free careers advice is available for up to three years after you graduate.

Choosing a career

Whether you know the career you want to pursue or are less certain about your choice of career, we can help you find out about your career options.  Further information is available on the University of Derby Career Development Centre website.

Skype a careers advisor

As an online distance learning student you can use the 'Sykpe a Careers Adviser' service to book a 20 minute appointment with a University of Derby Careers Adviser. This service will be available between 6-8pm by appointment.

Please reserve an appointment as soon as possible as spaces are limited due to high demand. Email us at careers@derby.ac.uk.

What is Skype?

Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice and video calls and chat over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system.

Before I book an appointment, what do I need to do?

To use this service you will need:

  • headphones
  • microphone
  • webcam (optional)
