Winner Of Buxton Poetry Competition Announced

Buxton Festival is delighted to announce the winners of this year's Buxton Poetry Competition, sponsored by the University of Derby Buxton. The esablished competition is well-loved part of the Festival and attracts entrants from across the country.
The overall winner of the Buxton Poetry Competition was Gill Learner. Gill's thought-provoking poem 'The isle is full of noises' was a fitting winner under the theme 'Welcome to Britain'.
Competition judges Ann and Peter Sansom said: "What a rich and surprising crop of fine poems this year in the Buxton Poetry Awards.
"We would like to thank everyone who entered for making our job so enjoyable - and so difficult! We hope you agree that the winning and commended poems this year really are outstanding."
The winners of the children's and youth categories came from across the country, and included local talent from Jennika Bates (first prize) and Martha Conway (commended) in the children's category and Hannah Rodger (third prize) in the youth category.
The winners' and finalists' work can be seen in a fabulous free exhibition at the University of Derby Buxton Campus, the Devonshire Dome, from July 8 - August 31.
