There is little doubt that the University has an exciting approach to vocational education, and to me this sets the course for the future in this country.

The University of Derby Buxton's ability to give a warm welcome was tested by the very best when they received a visit from the Institute of Hospitality's Chief Executive recently.
On January 31, special guest Philippe Rossiter was taken on a tour of the University's world class training facilities including kitchens, spa and state-of-the-art lecture theatres and enjoyed a meal in the Dome Fine Dining Restaurant; which is fully staffed, both in the kitchen and front of house, by current students.
He also heard from the University's staff about the focus on high quality work-based learning for students; and about recent developments such as the online Employability Portal (www.udbemployable.co.uk) which gives students access to work placement opportunities.
At the event, Philippe Rossiter said: "I much enjoyed my visit to Buxton. There is little doubt that the University has an exciting approach to vocational education, and to me this sets the course for the future in this country.
"Its imaginative and open engagement with the industry, as well as the various initiatives on the international stage, provide an excellent platform upon which the University can further grow and strengthen its reputation."
Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, Dr Peter Dewhurst, said: "As our programmes are accredited by the Institute of Hospitality it was a pleasure to welcome Philippe, and give him the opportunity to experience the environment that our students learn in.
"We look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with the Institute to ensure that our students are increasingly well-prepared for the world of work."
Students on the University's Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts programmes have access to membership of the Educational Membership Scheme of the Institute of Hospitality. Through this they can access a range of educational materials which support their learning.
