Velodrome Visit For Coaching Masterclass
29 February 2012
In February a group of University of Derby Buxton Sports Coaching and Outdoor students were given the unique opportunity to observe some of the UK's top cycling coaches in action at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
During the visit students were given an unrestricted tour of National Cycling Centre and met British Cycling's talent team coach Jeremy Hayes. Students also had the opportunity to engage with the talent team riders and one of the UK's top cyclists, BMX rider Marcus Bloomfield. Students were able to observe professional coaches deliver sessions to talented athletes, and discuss the theory they had learnt at University with Olympic standard coaches.
Lee Rylands, Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Sports Coaching and Development degrees said: "Visits like these are a vital part of our teaching. Giving students the opportunity to experience the reality of a top level coaching environment is invaluable to them.
"It is fantastic that through the University's links with national bodies like British Cycling that we can give our students these unique experiences seldom open to other universities."
