The doors to Buxton's iconic Devonshire Dome will be flung open to the community on December 14 when the University of Derby Buxton invites people to experience festive food, drink and beauty, and enjoy a traditional Christmas carol concert.

From 10am on Tuesday 14 December, people can visit the Devonshire Dome and be welcomed with a warming cup of soup. The Dome will be filled with stalls and activities, and skilled students and staff will give cookery, beauty treatments and sport demonstrations. Representatives from local voluntary organisations and charities will also be on hand to talk to visitors about their work in the local community, and how the public can get involved

Guides will give tours of the 18th century Grade II listed Devonshire Dome throughout the day, giving visitors a glimpse into the history of one of Buxton's most iconic buildings. The open day will be rounded off with a traditional carol concert featuring a performance from the Fairfield Brass Band, at 2.30pm.

Dr Peter Dewhurst, Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, said: "We want to welcome the Buxton community through the doors of the Dome on 14 December. The carol concert is a highlight of the Christmas calendar and we hope that lots of people take us up on our invitation to enjoy this open day."

The day has been organised by staff and students from Dome Event Management. For more information, please visit
