University Of Derby Corporate Hope To Build On Award Success
26 January 2012
The team at the heart of University of Derby Corporate (UDC) will find out on Friday (February 3) whether they've scooped a coveted Midlands Business Award, when they attend the glittering finals, being held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham.
Shortlisted in the category of 'Midlands Enterprising University of the Year', the team is hoping to build on its end of year success which saw them receive one of the industry's highest accolades, a Times Higher Education 'Outstanding Employers Engagement' Award.
Despite facing stiff competition, against fellow finalists the universities of Birmingham, Aston, Leicester and Northampton, UDC is confident it has what it takes to walk away with the award.
Dawn Whitemore, Head of University of Derby Corporate, said: "The category we've been shortlisted in really demonstrates our success to date in helping businesses and their employees to develop and grow, something we will be building on this year.
"UDC had a fantastic 2011 which culminated in a real highlight, winning a Times Higher Education Award, so if we're fortunate enough to win on Friday the whole team will be absolutely delighted."
UDC was launched in 2008 and is the corporate arm of the University of Derby. It works with a wide variety of organisations including Citibank, Dixons Retail and Croda, to deliver work-based learning programmes and accredited qualifications for their staff; which improve key capabilities such as service, innovation, leadership and problem solving.
Now in its sixth year the annual Midlands Business Awards celebrates the cream of the region's businesses. For this year's event its nine award categories cover areas including networking, innovation and entrepreneurship.
