The University of Derby Buxton has gained a ‘satisfactory’ rating after undergoing an Ofsted inspection late last year.

The inspectors identified a significant number of strengths and examples of good practice, and recognised that students are mostly satisfied with their overall experience. The report also highlighted that students feel safe, supported and valued. The grade awarded is ‘3, satisfactory’.

The inspectors observed some inconsistencies in the quality of Buxton’s provision with some of the programmes performing below the national benchmarks.

Dr Peter Dewhurst, Acting Dean of University of Derby, Buxton, said: “Although the overall grade is in line with our own Self Assessment Report, there is understandably some disappointment concerning some of the component grades. The outcome of the inspection shows we have built a solid foundation that provides us with an excellent platform to develop and improve our provision. Plans are now being developed to ensure that all of our delivery matches the performance of our best performing subject teams.”
