University IT Team Go Up Against Industry Heavyweights For National Awards

The team responsible for the vital IT service that supports the University of Derby is hoping to pick up two prestigious awards at the BCS & Computing UK IT Industry Awards, taking place in London in November.

Finalists for 'IT Employer of the Year', the University is set to take on industry heavyweights including O2 parent company Telefónica UK, Accenture and Remploy.

IT Director, Neil Williams, has also been nominated for 'CIO of the Year' for individual excellence.

Hari Punchihewa, Deputy Chief Executive of the University of Derby, said: "To be finalists in two categories of such well-respected industry awards is a fantastic achievement and I'm extremely proud of the team who work in our IT department.

"I'm delighted that our IT Director Neil Williams has been acknowledged for the work he has done in developing the IT team, leading them to become a key contributor to our business development and a very effective service provider."

The IT team work continuously to improve both the quality and effectiveness of IT services available to University staff and students.

Neil Williams adds: "Much of the work we do is unseen maintenance and development of a large IT infrastructure and associated services. I'm particularly pleased that the team has been externally recognised by our peers for the continuing improvements we are making to keep us ahead of the competition."

Since 2007, the UK IT Industry Awards have been focused on recognising achievement within the UK computer industry, awarding the contributions of individuals and organisations that have shown outstanding development in the last 12 months.

Winners will be announced at the honourable event taking place at Battersea Park Events arena in London on 14 November.
