University Dean Appointed to Local Strategic Partnership Role

The Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, who has been appointed Vice-Chair of the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak Local Strategic Partnership.
As Joint Vice-Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, and as a representative of the University, I hope to support the Partnership secure its vision for the Peak District for 2014.
”The Dean of the University of Derby Buxton is delighted to announce his recent election to the position of Joint Vice-Chair of Derbyshire Dales and High Peak Local Strategic Partnership.
Dr Peter Dewhurst was elected to the role at a meeting of the partnership in April, and is now working with members of the Board including Peter Lewis, the Police Divisional Commander for High Peak and Derbyshire Dales, on implementing a Sustainable Community Strategy.
Dr Dewhurst said: "The University and its Further Education arm, Buxton College, are fully rooted in the region. Our University students come from around the UK and indeed the world, to study a diverse range of courses which are strongly tied to local businesses, due to our emphasis on experiential learning. Their experiences of the town and region, while they study with us, form an incredibly important part in their University lives, and of course their memories once they leave.
"Our Buxton College students meanwhile, mainly come from the local area, and so the strength and success of the region impacts on employability, career paths and opportunities for them once they complete their courses.
"As Joint Vice-Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, and as a representative of the University, I hope to support the Partnership secure its vision for the Peak District for 2014."
Dr Dewhurst's election was welcomed by Caitlin Bisknell, Leader of High Peak Borough Council, who said: "I've no doubt that Peter's leadership and guidance will prove invaluable as we work together in the strategic partnership to make the High Peak the best place it can be for residents, businesses and visitors alike."
In its Sustainable Community Strategy for 2009 - 2014, the Partnership sets out its vision for the Peak District to be a distinctive, high quality rural environment for people of all ages; a provider of high wage, high skill jobs and affordable, decent homes for local people; and a place where towns and villages offer a high quality of life.
